“Today I Learned”

today I learned

There is this friend of mine who always encourages me to become a lifelong learner. Being a lifelong learner, I believe what he means is to learn for its own sake, or more simply, is to be better than we were yesterday. So yeah… here I am! I’m trying to learn new things everyday (or to get new perspectives on life). And this page is created because I think it’ll be a great idea if I keep a record of this learning journey and share with others. I’ll try to keep the page updated with things that I’ve learned in my daily life. (By the way, it sounds like a project, so let’s name it “Today I Learned” project).

When visiting a new place, put the camera away (even my film camera) and draw instead. I know that taking a film photo takes time (a lot), and that you have to be patient and focus entirely on the object you want to capture, which makes film photos valuable. However, today I learned that drawing (sketching or doodling) is even more interesting and truly worth a try. Next time when travelling somewhere, I’ll definitely bring my sketchbook with me and draw! This drawing thing has nothing to do with drawing well or becoming an artist, it’s all about training ourselves to make sensory connections, about getting in touch with how we feel and being more aware of our inner self as well as what’s happening around us. And by that way, our memories will last longer.

Sometimes we look at things but don’t really notice them, and that’s when drawing matters.

When I was younger, people always told me there was more evil than good in the world. However, I believe every human being carries the seed of both good and evil within them and it doesn’t neccessarily mean we are either just good or just bad people. By saying that, I mean people who hate you for many reasons, or for no reason at all, are not always bad people. Sometimes they come into your life to help you grow as a person. So today’s lesson is, do not take hate personally, just keep doing your thing whether other people like it or not. Dealing with haters in a proper way is a skill that takes time.

When it comes to filmmaking, gear doesn’t matter. What matters most is your story.

“Who are you?”

I told my friend to ask me this question whenever I feel lost. Because this very question will remind me of what I love to do for the rest of my life, or rather, who I truly want to be. Today I thought a lot about spending my whole 3 months’ salary for “this thing”, which means I can’t do anything else but continue to work my full-time job for 3 more months, and which also means my plan will have to be changed a little bit.

Anyways, I don’t think that I need it now. More importantly, I can’t wait to go on this adventure and there are always other ways to tell stories. So… screw it!

*Many thanks to Casey Neistat for today’s lesson*

Sometimes all what you need to do is keep your mouth shut.

And in some certain circumstances, not saying anything may be the best answer.

Most of us don’t have a sense of identity and purpose because….

We’re living in a society where extroverts are praised and celebrated. A society where we need to make connections to get a better job, and a social account with thousands of followers becomes our ultimate dream. But we will eventually feel content with our life? I’m afraid not.

Embrace the differences.

We are all human, yet we are all very different in many ways. I always want to talk to people who share the same values or interests. And sometimes being around those who don’t see the world the same way as I do makes me feel uncomfortable because… I have nothing to say or to share (maybe?) when I’m with them. But today I learned that every one is unique in their own SPECIAL way, and I, I have to accept people for who they truly are. I can’t judge someone’s taste in music just because they don’t listen to my fav music, right?!

Crob Job.

Today, while dealing with email marketing automation, I learned a completely new conceipt which is “cron job”. “Cron” or “Cron job” is a process or task that is scheduled to run periodically on Unix system (Tasks in cron job are called crontabs).
